AUGUSTA – Rita N. Cormier, 90, of Allen Street, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Gray Birch Drive, after a brief illness.

She was born in Vassalboro, April 4, 1917, the daughter of Philias and Delina (Bonenfant) Roy.

She had been employed at the Augusta Mental Health Institute for several years as a seamstress and for several years at E.E. Taylor Shoe Co.

She was a communicant of St. Andrews Catholic Church of St. Michael’s Parish for most of her life. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club in the late 1940s.

Survivors include a son, Michael R. Cormier and his wife, (Susan Boyce) Cormier, of Wilton; a daughter, Pamela L. Peasley of Gardiner; a brother, Robert Roy of Portland; eight grandchildren, Michael R. Cormier of Wilton, Elizabeth Cormier of Rochester, N.Y., Michelle Beane of Westbrook, Dr. Paul Beane of Sitka, Alaska, Suzanne and Michael Gammon of Randolph and Holly and Lance Carlezon of Windsor; five great-grandchildren, Paige and Edward Weymouth, Raven and Kole Carlezon and Isaac Gammon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Neil Cormier; her parents; brothers, Alphonse King and Leon King; and sisters, Cora Baitler, Irene Arno, Leonilda Lajoie, Yvette Freel, Juliette Friedman, Sister Lucille Roy of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary “Simon Peter.”
