FRANCONIA NOTCH, N.H. – Rescuers found two hikers in Franconia Notch Monday evening.

According to WMUR-TV in Manchester, N.H., Fish and Game Department officials said Laurence Fredrickson, 55, of South Sutton, and James Osborne, 36, of Manchester, failed to show up at work at Concord Coach Lines on Monday. A ground and air search began Monday afternoon after the hikers’ car was found along a road.

Officials said the men were found on Little Haystack mountain at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Fredrickson and Osborne were in a severe hypothermic state.

The men were flown to Littleton Regional Hospital.

They had told friends they intended to climb Mount Lafayette, using two separate trails connected by a ridgeline that runs for more than mile at a height of about 5,000 feet.
