AUBURN – Alma G. Vachon, 96, of Sabattus, peacefully passed away on Feb. 11, surrounded by her loving children.

She was born in Auburn on Oct. 25, 1911, the daughter of Joseph and Hermina (Duval) Thibodeau. She worked for many years in several local shoe factories and briefly at the Bates Mill before retiring in her early 70s. She was a member of the Sabattus Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing cards with her dear friends as part of a Wednesday Afternoon Card Club. Beyond her fondness for playing cards, she possessed great love for music and musicals, dancing, bowling, gardening and family gatherings, both large and small. She also adored spending time with her many Canadien relatives in Quebec, and while vacationing at Wells Beach.

She was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of the Rosary in Sabattus, and at Holy Family in Lewiston.

She is survived by her children, Richard Vachon, Jacqueline LaBrecque and her husband, Richard, and Rita Vachon of Sabattus and Marc Vachon (known to friends as Rogie or Boomer) of Auburn; her grandchildren, Anne Bergeron and her partner, Mike Pelletier, of Auburn, Lisa Pomerleau and her husband, Armand, of Sabattus, Julie Stearns and her husband, Greg, of Monroe, Susan Mason and her husband, David, of Yarmouth, Patty Higgins and her partner, Andrea Mitchell, of South Portland and Chad Higgins and his fiancée, Alex Roberts, of Boston; and her eight great-grandsons, Zak, Noah, Alex, Wyatt, Karl, Sam, Aaron and Ian.

She was predeceased by her husband, Aimé; her parents; her brothers, Bill Thibodeau, Roland Thibodeau, Joseph Thibodeau and Henry Thibodeau; and her sisters, Ida Beaudoin, Maria Asselin, Lucienne Mathieu and Gertrude Dionne.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Roger Austin and the staff at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for their extraordinary care and support.
