PORTLAND – Alfred Daigle, 61, of South Portland, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Maine Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 30, 1946, in Augusta, the son of Lionel and Jeanne d’arc “Arbour” Daigle. He was educated at St. Augustine Elementary and attended seminary in Bucksport. He graduated from Cony High School, Class of 1965. He attended the University of Maine at Augusta. While there, he met his future wife, Catherine A. Griffin. They were married on Dec. 30, 1967.
Moving to Scarborough in 1968, Al worked in sales for Martin Foods and Kirschner Meats. He then went to work for Shaw’s as a deli manager. He then worked as a manager for George Roberts at his two service stations.
For the past 20 years, he has worked in the waterworks supply industry. This is in thanks to his brother-in-law Peter Glazier. During his time in the water supply industry, he worked for Rila Precast, Ti Sales and presently for E.J. Prescott at their Portland office.
He was a member of the Thornton Heights Lions Club in South Portland. He held many posts within the organization, working his way up to being deputy district governor. Some of his closest friends came from his association with the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Catherine Griffin Daigle of South Portland; two sons, Alfred Peter Daigle and wife, Barbara, of Lewiston and Andrew Paul Daigle of South Portland; one grandson, Alfred James Daigle and his wife, Jennifer, of Auburn; granddaughter, Natasha Daigle; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Daigle; brother, Paul E. Daigle and wife, Rita, of Plano, Texas; sister, Jacqueline Claybourn and husband, Ron, of Oakland, Calif.; along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Arlene M. Towle and Delores Pushard.
