NORWAY – The Gladys Stewart Book Scholarship Fund recently awarded its first gift to Heather Bowden, a certified nursing assistant, who has worked at Market Square Health Care Center for two years on the Andrews East unit.
The Stewart Book Scholarship was founded by Stewart’s family in memory of her life. The goal is to assist Market Square staff and their children as they aspire to enhance their education and skills.
The Stewart family recognizes that there are few scholarships available to help with book expenses, and books can generate substantial expenses for students.
Bowden is enrolled at Central Maine Community College, with the eventual goal of attaining her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She cared for Gladys Stewart when she resided at the center.
“Heather has evolved into a natural leader on the floor: others look to her for direction. She is a hard worker, perceptive, motivated and easily combines efficiency with compassion,” said Phillip DuBois, administrator of Market Square. “She will make an outstanding nurse someday.”
