FARMINGTON – Three River Valley area students have been accepted into the Mid Maine Youth Orchestra.

Addy Fuller of Peru has been accepted as a violinist. Fuller is a seventh-grader at Dirigo Middle School and is the daughter of Don and Kim Fuller of Peru.

Nori Hashimoto of Rumford has been chosen as a cellist. Hashimoto, is a junior at Mountain Valley High School and is the son of Kalin and Toshio Hashimoto of Rumford.

Erich Zurhorst of Rumford has been accepted into the orchestra as a violinist player. Zurhorst is an eighth-grader at Mountain Valley Middle School and is the son of Craig and Mary Zurhorst of Rumford.

The orchestra will be conducted under the guidance of Andrew Forster, music director for SAD 47, and Steve Muise, string leader for SAD 9.

The public will be invited to two free concerts: the first at l7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, in the Messalonskee Performing Art Center in Oakland and the second at 3 p.m. Monday, March 2, in the Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.

The Mid Maine Youth Orchestra accepts young musicians from the Mid Maine region who excel in their instrument. Members were selected by auditions and had to be in good standing in their school band or orchestra. MMYO’s philosophy is to foster the development of musical talent in Maine’s youth and to provide musical opportunities.
