SOUTH PARIS – Carroll Lewis Townsend, 90, of Norway died Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Market Square Health Care Center.

He was born in Drew on March 2, 1917, the son of George and Grace Worcester Townsend. He attended school in Milo and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater during the occupation of Japan.

He married Leah Marie Richardson on May 22, 1938. She died April 18, 2000. He worked for Sanborn Motor Express before becoming a foreman at Wilner Wood Products, where he retired after more than 34 years.

He was a member of the Norway Fire Department, the Knights of Pythias and the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 to 1939. He loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by a son, George and his wife, Barbara, of Norway; a daughter, Anita and her husband, George Holden, of Silverdale, Wash.; grandchildren, Steve Townsend of Warren, George and Kelly Townsend of Waterford, Jo-Linn and Jim Tibbetts of Otisfield, Stephen Holden and Lanning Blanks of Portland, Ore., Paul and Tina Holden of Paulsbo, Wash., Cindi and Garrett Smith of Bremerton, Wash., Mischelle and Mike Lefebvre of Cardiff by the Sea, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Travis Townsend, Wyatt and Marshall Tibbetts, Caylee, Christopher and Riley Holden, and Matthew and Marc Lefebvre.
