LEWISTON – Fernand F. Caux, 87, of 18 Brule St., Lewiston, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Marshwood Nursing Home.
He was born in Lewiston on June 10, 1920, the son of Albert and Marie Anne Breton Caux. Educated in local schools, he married the former Alma Moreau on Dec. 27, 1941.
He was a member of the National Guard and was transferred to the Army after the outbreak of World War II. He served with distinction in the Pacific Theater as a platoon sergeant, and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.
After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Lewiston and was employed as a master oil burner technician. Always good with his hands, he enjoyed woodworking and was his extended family’s “Mr. Fix-It.” A member of Holy Family Parish, he was also active in the American Legion, Post 22, and enjoyed playing cards at the legion hall every Friday night.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 66 years; a son, Roger and wife, Georgette, of Greene; a daughter, Constance Caux of Lewiston; a sister, Rita Gastonguay of Lewiston; and two grandsons, John and Michael, both of Boston, Mass.
