LEWISTON – In the Eastern Division of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, there have been no hotter teams than the two that will hit the ice tonight and Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The Acadie-Bathurst Titan, led by Mathieu Perreault and his 27-game point streak, descend on Lewiston for a pair of games against the Maineiacs, who with 14 games to play are four points out of second place in the division.

The Titan, meanwhile, are creeping up behind Lewiston, too, and sit fifth, six back of the Maineiacs.

“They can play with anybody in this league, they proved it (Wednesday against Rouyn-Noranda),” Maineiacs coach Ed Harding said. “They’re coming in on a hot streak. They should be favored coming in here, and we’re going to have our hands full.”

Acadie-Bathurst and Lewiston have identical 8-3-1 records in their last 12 games. Only Baie-Comeau (9-2-1) and Rimouski (9-3) in the Telus Division have better records during that stretch.

The Titan’s offense is a big reason why they are so hot. Five of their forwards have scored at least 20 goals, with Tomy Joly leading the way at 34. Perreault’s streak of 27 straight games with at least one point is the longest in the league since Alexander Radulov, now with the NHL’s Nashville Predators, earned a point in 50 consecutive games in the 2005-06 season.

The Maineiacs have nearly as many goals in the past 12 games (47), as the Titan (53), but the difference is on defense and in net. The Titan have allowed 43 goals over their 12 games (an average of 3.58 goals against), while Lewiston has allowed just 30 (2.50).

“They put a lot of pucks in the net, and we’re going to have all we can do to keep them off the board,” Harding said. “We’re going to have to try and play some smart hockey.”

The Titan will be on a stretch similar to what the Maineiacs endured last week, playing four games in five days. They earned a 5-3 victory over Rouyn-Noranda at home Wednesday, play the Maineiacs twice and then head to Saint John on Sunday to face the Sea Dogs.

Lewiston, meanwhile, sees its schedule fan out a bit. The Maineiacs will have five days off after Saturday’s contest before playing five games in eight nights, including a back-to-back home set with Halifax. From there, Lewiston does not play back-to-back games the rest of the season.

Notes: The Maineiacs’ scheduled practice Thursday was delayed due to the weather. A power outage left the Colisee’s generators unable to keep the ice frozen, and the team had to wait several hours Thursday for the ice to refreeze. … Lewiston called up Pier-Olivier Morin to attend this weekend’s games, and perhaps play in one of them. Harding likened this call-up to the team’s call-up of Alexander Beaton last year, helping the young forward get acclimated to the community and the team in advance of next season.
