LEWISTON – Casey Parker has used up plenty of ink in publications across the state this season, many times leading St. Dom’s to a win with a goal or a key assist.

Thursday, little brother Alex figured he’d join in the fun.

“He’s been pounding the net all year,” St. Dom’s coach John Pleau said of Alex. “They fell for him today, and that was good. We needed some production from the third line.”

Alex Parker scored a pair of goals, Casey Parker added another and C.J. Bergeron also scored as the Saints held off Cheverus 4-3 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

“We can win ugly as well as pretty,” Pleau said.

The Saints (11-8-0), winners of their last four games, struggled to get things going Thursday, often struggling to get their cycle working in the Stags’ zone.

“The deplorable ice conditions, we just couldn’t get our game speed; we just couldn’t,” Pleau said. “It wasn’t happening. We had spurts, and our third line was phenomenal.”

The Colisee nearly lost its ice Wednesday into Thursday after power left the generators unable to cool the surface for much of the night.

Cheverus, meanwhile, has played better lately than its 3-13-1 record indicates, giving several of Western Class A’s top teams trouble.

“It’s chemistry,” Cheverus defenseman Topher Pochebit said. “We’re finally coming together as a team. We’re getting used to playing together, and playing with some heart.”

Alex and Casey Parker scored 35 seconds apart early in the third to salt the game away, though the Stags’ Kyle Welch made it a closer game at 7:41 of the final stanza with a snipe past St. Dom’s keeper Max Wiley (19 saves).

Neither team could find a rhythm through the first period, and both keepers allowed goals they likely wanted to have back immediately.

Cheverus got on the board first at 5:05 of the opening frame on a weak wobbler from just inside the blue line by Hayden Petersen, a virtual dump-in. The puck bounced just in front of St. Dom’s netminder Max Wiley and slithered through his pads.

“That helped early,” Pochebit said. “It set them back a bit and gave us momentum.”

The Saints marched back later in the period, getting goals from Bergeron and Alex Parker just 25 seconds apart to take the lead. Bergeron’s came on a tip in front on the power play, while Parker earned his on another tip, this time on a wrister from the left point.

The Stags evened things up on their first of three power plays in the second period on a Petersen rebound goal in front of Wiley.

St. Dom’s concludes its season with a game at Ingersoll Arena on Saturday against Edward Little.
