WOODSTOCK – A. Sayward and Cynthia A. Lamb of Woodstock and Plant City, Fla., observed their 60th wedding anniversary Jan. 17. They were married at the home of Mr. Lamb’s grandparents, Rev. Albert N. Smith and Mary H. Smith, in Gardiner. The Rev. Albert Smith officiated at the double ring service.
Newton Lamb, his brother, was best man and Joyce A. Lamb, Mrs. Lamb’s sister, was the maid of honor. Their parents are Wendell and Nina Allen of Buckfield and Conrad and Celia Lamb of West Paris.
A surprise anniversary party was held for the couple at the home of Lenard and Avanell Crosby in Plant City, Fla. Several friends from Sundial Park also attended. The guests were treated to a bountiful buffet supper served by the hostess.
Following the supper, Mrs. Crosby brought out a beautifully decorated cake, which was cut by the guests of honor and served to the 30 guests attending. To keep the party a surprise, arrangements were made to have cards from relatives and friends mailed directly to the Crosby home. Those cards, as well as several from those guests present, were presented to the couple, along with other gifts.
Mr. Lamb worked for I.W. Andrews and Son in Woodstock as a casket upholsterer, emergency medical technician and as a mortuary attendant. Following the sale of the funeral homes to J.W. Raymond and Son Funeral Home of Norway, Mr. Lamb served as manager of the Andrews Funeral Homes in South Woodstock and Buckfield and the Greenleaf Funeral Home in Bethel, until his retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Lamb owned and operated Cindy’s Beauty Shop in West Paris until her retirement in 1989.
Since retirement, the couple has spent summers at their cottage at North Pond in Woodstock and their winters in Plant City, Fla.
Mr. Lamb is a member of the Streaked Mountain Woodcarvers, a charter member of the West Paris Historical Society and a member of Granite Lodge No. 182 of West Paris. He is a member of the West Paris Universalist Church.
Mrs. Lamb is a member of the West Paris Universalist Church and the Goodwill Society. She is also a member of the Eastern Star and is a charter member of the West Paris Historical Society.
They are the parents of two sons, James A. Lamb of Oxford and Ronald B. Lamb of Sebec, and one daughter, Natalie A. Morse of Oakland. They also have six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
