Norway – Doris Arlene Hall Stevens, 74, of Oxford, died on Friday, Feb. 15, at the Stephens Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Lewiston on June 15, 1933, the daughter of Theodore E. and Evie Lucy O’Hara Hall. She grew up on the Hardscrabble Road in Poland, attending local schools. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1950. She worked in a shoe factory until she married her late husband, Harry L. Stevens, on Feb. 1, 1953. He later died on Feb. 16, 1986. Doris enjoyed working in the garden, knitting mittens for her grandchildren, playing cards and games with her sisters and helping care for her great-grandchildren.
She watched some television in her later years, but would rather listen to country and western or Christian music. Once a month she enjoyed the luncheon for seniors at the United Methodist Church in Auburn. She always greeted everyone with a smile and would help those in need if she could. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
She had six children, Susan Managan of Bridgton, Harry H. of West Paris, Dana E. of Oxford, Bradley J. of Oxford and Betsy Plummer of Norway. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol J. Conant, in May of 2007.
She has three surviving sisters, Gracie Stone of Auburn, Nancy Greer of Cape Elizabeth and Shirley Moyse of West Paris. She was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Hall.
She has two brothers, Carl E. Hall of Tennessee and Landon T. Hall of North Carolina. Doris is leaving behind 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
