FRANCONIA NOTCH, N.H. (AP) – A Boston man who got lost in Franconia Notch is recovering after a dangerous rescue Saturday night.

Authorities said Benjamin Davis, 28, sent a text message to his girlfriend Saturday afternoon saying he was lost. He was found around 5:30 p.m. on Mount Lafayette and rescued by a National Guardsman who was lowered from a helicopter in windy conditions and deep snow.

Davis had planned to hike the same 9-mile loop where two other men got lost last week. He was equipped for cold weather and had a tent and sleeping bag with him.

Last week, a South Sutton man died after spending six hours fighting below-zero temperatures, 60 mile an hour winds and deep snow.
