PARIS – Lessons from Ice Storm ’98 will be the focus of the 7 p.m. Feb. 21 meeting of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
Bill Ostrofsky, forest pathologist with the Maine Forest Service, will show slides of the “event of the century” and will talk about what has been learned about the long-term effects on our forests. He will discuss the kinds of problems woodlot owners in the affected areas can expect to find in their trees, even those that appear to have recovered. Decay and internal damage will affect trees for many years to come.
The meeting open to the public at no charge will be held in Room 118, adjacent to the cafeteria. For more information, contact chapter President Merle Ring at 674-3787.
