BANGOR (AP) – A one-time entrepreneur from Ireland who had pleaded guilty to a four-count indictment stemming from a 2006 bank holdup is facing nearly 10 years in prison and deportation.
U.S. District Judge John Woodcock also said he would recommend that Niall Clarke, a 27-year-old award-winning computer science graduate of Dublin’s Trinity College with no prior criminal history, be provided with psychological and substance abuse treatment.
Woodcock also said he would recommend that Clarke be able to serve at least some of his prison term back home in Ireland.
Prosecutors recommended an overall prison sentence of slightly more than a decade for Clarke, who has been held in the Cumberland County Jail in Portland for 15 months.
