FARMINGTON – Adventure and drama in a world of fairies and other creatures topped the list for movie patrons Wednesday afternoon at Narrow Gauge Cinema.

Tickets to the “Spiderwick Chronicles” were selling quickly as children and parents opted to spend a cold February afternoon lost in the wonder of the visual story.

Cinema employee Heather Gonsior said the movie was the top choice of the day, but she also sold a few tickets to some younger customers for the animated veggie tale “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.”

Matinees this week have been popular, Gonsior said. With temperatures just over 20 degrees, an afternoon movie and popcorn appeared to appeal to all ages.

Matt Couillard, a sixth-grader at Academy Hill School in Wilton, has seen several movies this school vacation week and found the video machines located beside the lobby “a good place for kids before the movie starts.” Along with movies, Couillard said he has been spending some time snowboarding.

Arlene Purrington and Marie Arnold of Jay brought Purrington’s grandchildren, Morgan, 9, and Bennett, 4, to see the animated pirate movie. The foursome were making a day of it as they also went out for lunch before Morgan and Bennett tried their hand at racing cars on the video machines.
