AUGUSTA (AP) – Maine is in line to receive nearly $4 million more in federal heating assistance.

Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins say Maine is due to receive an additional $3.84 million, its share of the $40 million in emergency heat assistance funding the Department of Health and Human Services has released to 11 states.

The senators say the additional Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program comes as record oil prices have a devastating impact on many Mainers, especially low-income families and seniors.

LIHEAP, which serves about 48,000 households in Maine, has received nearly $41 million to date for this season.
