Day of prayer

CANTON – World Day of Prayer will be observed Friday, March 7, with the theme, “God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding,” chosen by women of Guyana.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. March 7 at the Canton Baptist Church, Route 108. The women of the Congregational Church of East Sumner will lead the service. Refreshments will be provided after. For more information, call Cynthia Norton at 388-2667.

The annual offering will support the work of World Day of Prayer and help meet the needs of families in regions of turmoil worldwide.

Elks events

RUMFORD – Fresh Dough Pizza Night will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Elks Lodge, Exchange Street. Cost will be $2.50 for a 6×6 pizza and take-outs will be available. For more information, call the lodge at 364-4022.

Steak Sandwich Nite will be held from 4:30 p.m. until sold out Saturday, March 1, at the Elks Lodge. There will be a $6 donation for steak sandwiches. Take-outs will be available. DJ music will be presented by Party Time and there will be raffles, with proceeds to benefit the National Elks Foundation. Meeting canceled

RUMFORD – Due to the predicted weather, the monthly community network meeting sponsored by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27, has been canceled. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26.
