CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts will present a tribute and fundraiser for Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center. Holland will be joined on stage by Maine fiddlers Don Roy, who will be the host for the evening, Ellen Gawler and Frank Ferrel along with special guests Mairi Rankin and Cindy Roy. A preshow jam will start at 6:30 p.m..

Holland’s father was a musical man respectful of tradition. Holland Sr. was 50-plus years old when his son was born, placing the budding musician directly into a vibrant older culture. From childhood on, a series of fortunate events put Holland in the company of many of the greatest Cape Breton musicians of the last generation, including Winston Fitzgerald, Bill Lamey and Angus Chisholm.

Holland Sr. also had an interest in Irish music, which he passed on to his son.

For the last year, Holland has been battling bone cancer with expensive post-operative treatments and medications. Fans all over the world have been gathering together to lend support. This is the first such benefit show organized in Maine.

A minimum donation of $10 is suggested. All proceeds will be donated to Holland.

Skye Theatre is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2. Reservations are required for this show. Call New England Celtic Arts at 562-4445. For more information, log on to www.necelticarts.com.
