LEWISTON – Florien Gerard Dufour, 84, of 5 Hartford St., Lewiston, died Feb. 24, at d’Youville Pavilion.
He was born on Sept. 8, 1923, in Lewiston, the eldest child of Augustin and Eva (Parent) Dufour and attended Lewiston schools.
He was married to Lillian Dionne on Jan. 24, 1948. Together they raised four children and built two homes in the Hogan Road area of Lewiston. Flo and Lil recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. For the last six years, he was dedicated to her care at d’Youville Pavilion and was constantly by her side. The patients and staff at the nursing home became his second family.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946, and was stationed in Naples, Italy. Upon returning home from World War II, he began work at the Hill Mill and worked there for 25 years until it closed in 1971. Then he worked for eight years in construction for various companies and finished his working career employed by the city of Lewiston at the pumping station.
He was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Association Canado-Americaine, the American Legion, and a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus.
He took great delight in being with and supporting his family. He also enjoyed his garden, playing cards with family and friends, bowling and building homes. For six years, he cooked family suppers at the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; son, Paul Dufour and his wife, Linda, of Lewiston; daughter, Doris Tutlis and her husband, Joseph, of Carrabassett Valley; daughter, Linda Baril and her husband, Gerard, of Carrabasett Valley; son, Robert of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Tina White, Christopher Tutlis, Brian Baril, Lisa Beaulieu, Matthew Tutlis and Amanda Krasa; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond of Greene.
He was predeceased by brothers, Roger, Donat, Marcel, Victor; and a sister, Marie.
He lived a long, full life leaving many wonderful warm memories for family and friends.
