FARMINGTON – Laurette M. Lavoie, 85, of Erchles Street and Strathglass Park, Rumford, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at Edgewood Rehab.
She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 29, 1922, a daughter of Thomas and Marie Rose (Thibodeau) Theriault, and resided in Rumford most of her life. She was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1941. She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Catholic Church and was past secretary of St. Johns Guild.
During World War II, she worked for the Oxford Paper Co. as a lab technician. She retired from Lamey Wellehan with more than 16 years of service.
She enjoyed taking adult education classes, majoring in reupholstering and oil painting and participating in art exhibits with the Tributary Art Council.
On Aug. 27, 1947, she married Gerard A. Lavoie. He passed away on Jan. 20, 1995.
She was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and enjoyed volunteer work with special needs children.
After retirement, she enjoyed being a senior citizen, and member of the Rumford Senior Citizens Club.
Surviving are sons, Daniel R. Lavoie of Rumford and Peter G. Lavoie and wife, Norma, of Livermore Falls; two brothers, Norman R. Theriault and wife, Irene, and Russell Theriault, both of Rumford; five sisters, Lucille Madley of Wallingford, Conn., Venise Sexton of Cape Cod, Mass., Ruth Lynch of Franklington, La., Colette Wagner of Rumford and Marcelle Miller of Rumford; granddaughter, Donna Lynn Dobson; grandson, William F.P. Lavoie; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Zackery Lavoie.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Gerard Lavoie; sisters, Gisele Gurney, Viola Gurney and Irene Kinch; and a brother, Real Theriault.
