PERU – Selectmen meeting Monday reviewed a reply to their letter to Richard Flewelling of the Maine Municipal Association in relation to their concern over a Web site posting town business.

The advice from Flewelling was that the town have the creator of the Web site, Bill Hine, remove the notation “copyrighted by the Town of Peru.” A seal on the site is not actually the official town seal.

The letter also suggested that if the board wishes to authorize Hine to host the town’s official Web site, it should be expressed by written agreement with specific provisions for the town to retain control of the Web site’s contents.

The town repeatedly invited Hine to a meeting to discuss the site. So far, Hine has not responded or met with the board.

The board voted to forward the Flewelling letter to Hine. The Web site is www.perumaine.net.

The board authorized road foreman Rick Vaughn to order up to 300 yards of sand. Vaughn said he thought that could get the town through the rest of the winter.

Vaughn said some people are taking pickups full of sand for personal use. There is no written policy on how much sand people can take, but it usually is a few buckets.
