AUBURN – Rose A. Harlow, 87, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Feb. 24, at Hospice House.

She was born in St. Narcisse, Quebec, on Dec. 18, 1920, to Ovila and Marie Duclos Langlois. She was raised and educated in Lewiston. She was married to Frederick R .Harlow on May 28, 1950. Together they raised their three children and devoted their lives to their family and each other.

She worked for many years as a seamstress at Ward Brothers in Lewiston before retiring with her husband to North Waterboro in 1985. He passed away in 1989. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, spending time at Old Orchard Beach and visiting with her family. She loved to travel and after retirement took up quilting and beano. She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren.

She will forever be remembered by her daughter, Linda, and her husband, Wayne Penley, of Auburn; her sons, Richard of Windsor, Colo., and Stephen and his wife, Valancy, of North Waterboro. She was a loving Nana to her four grandchildren, Laura and her husband, Nick Bragdon, of Lewiston, Ellen Penley of Sigonella Naval Base, Sicily, Rachael Penley of Auburn and Cameron Harlow. It was with great excitement that she recently learned of her soon-to-be-born first great-grandchild.

She is survived by her brother, Roger Langlois and his wife, Theresa, of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Yvette Langlois of St Lambert, Quebec; and 10 nieces and nephews with fond memories of Aunt Rose.

She was predeceased by her sister, Eva Galipeau of Auburn; and her brothers, Odias Langlois and Lucien Langlois of Lewiston and Alfred Langlois of St. Lambert, Quebec.

Her life was defined by courage and optimism, and she was the definition of dignity and grace right to the end, never once complaining and fighting her cancer with tenacity.

The family wishes to warmly thank Rosemary and Carol and all the wonderful staff at Chapman House for the care they afforded Rose in the past five months. She felt right at home there immediately and enjoyed the friends she made and the activities that were provided to the residents.

Many thanks are extended to Hospice House of Auburn. The family was greatly touched by the overwhelming kindness extended to them and the compassionate care they provided to Rose on several occasions and especially during her last week with us.
