BANGOR – Clifford “Kip” L. Whitney, 77, died Feb. 25, at a local hospital after a recent illness with his loving wife by his side.

He was born April 9, 1930, in New Portland, the son of Lorien and Vera (Safford) Whitney. Kip was a dedicated family man with a strong work ethic. He graduated from Weld High School in 1948, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948, to 1952 during the Korean War and as a drill instructor at Parris Island, S.C. He worked for J.J. Nissen Co. until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Marine Corps League.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Hanson) Whitney of Bangor; five sons and their wives, Michael and Nancy of Rochester, Kent, U.K., Tim and Robin of Lucerne, Dennis and Aprel of Holden, Doug and Lisa of Bangor and Chris and Joanne of Winterport; one daughter, Kathy Crowley of Bangor; two sisters, Phyllis Jackson of Weld and Joyce Merchant of Chesterville; grandchildren, Christopher Whitney, Michelle Roberts, Eric Whitney, Megan Whitney, Amanda Whitney, Hannah Whitney, Joel Whitney, Michaela Whitney, Brianna Crowley, Devlin Crowley, Nathan Bradford; one great-granddaughter, Mariah Roberts; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Cloyd “Cody” Whitney.
