RUMFORD – Minnie Marble, 98, of Canton, a longtime resident of Park Avenue in Dixfield, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Rumford Hospital, after a brief illness.
She was born in on April 11, 1909, in Hartford, Conn., a daughter of Angela (Tancredi) and Joseph Padula.
She studied at the Gehrman School of Music and also at the Julius Hartt in Hartford, Conn. Of her seven siblings, four were girls. They all played a musical instrument.
In the 1930s they formed an all-girl band and played at various night clubs and functions in Hartford. This is where she met Paul; they were married in 1939. Music was a vital part of her life.
They moved back to Maine in 1944, and made their home in Dixfield. She was organist at St. Joseph’s Church in Dixfield and gave piano lessons for many years. She also played piano for many functions.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dixfield, and she enjoyed playing cards and knitting.
She leaves one son, Jerome Marble and wife, Mary, of Leesburg, Fla.; two daughters, Gail Maguire and husband, Charles Morris, of Wildwood, Fla., and Jane Angus and husband, Alan T., of Farmington, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Paul F. Marble; and several brothers and sisters.
