An Edward Little High School junior faces federal drug trafficking charges after he was arrested last week at his Auburn home, WGME reported Tuesday.
The news station reported that the 17-year-old was picked up by agents from U.S. Drug Enforcement during a sting on Summer Street. Agents say the teen had $10,000 in cash and was attempting to buy a pound of cocaine from an out-of-state supplier last week.
After the arrest, agents searched the teen’s home and found a loaded assault rifle, two handguns, 60 ecstasy pills, a bulletproof vest and night vision goggles, according to WGME.
On Summer Street Tuesday night, a neighbor recalled watching the arrest from a nearby home. She said several police officers in unmarked cars swarmed on the area and jumped out of their vehicles as a young man walked by on Summer Street.
The witness said the suspect was wrestled to the ground, handcuffed and driven away.
The case has been turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland, which prosecutes federal drug cases. The suspect was not identified because he is a juvenile.
In Lewiston, Maine Drug Enforcement Supervisor Gerry Baril said his department was not involved in the arrest. Auburn police were only asked to transport the suspect and were not part of the investigation.
WGME reported that it is believed the teen had been selling drugs in the Auburn area since he was 15 and had become a major dealer in the Twin Cities.
