JAY – Three Jay teenagers face motor vehicle burglary and theft charges after police say they entered vehicles on Jewell, Knapp and Lavoie streets earlier this month.

Many of the items reported stolen from vehicles were found by police at a Jay residence.

Police issued summonses to each of the boys, ages 14, 15 and 17, on charges of burglary from a motor vehicle and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Wednesday.

Officer Stephen Wilkinson received a report at 2 a.m. on Feb. 20 about three young males who were seen acting suspiciously around unattended vehicles and checking vehicle doors in the area of Knapp Street, White said.

The teenagers were seen walking toward Livermore Falls, and Wilkinson asked Livermore Falls police to respond to the area.

Wilkinson and a Livermore Falls officer located two juveniles in the Church and Knapp street area with one of the teens later found to be in possession of stolen property, White said.

A Franklin County dispatcher advised Wilkinson of another complaint of theft from a vehicle on Jewell Street. While investigating that incident, Wilkinson determined that the property that he had seen the boys with moments earlier was stolen from the vehicle on Jewell Street, White said.

After interviews and further investigation, Wilkinson and Jay police Sgt. Troy Young searched a home and found much of the property that had been reported stolen, White said.

CDs, a car stereo, soda, a New York State Thruway EZ pass and other items were found, White said.

Two snowboards reported stolen from Livermore Falls were also recovered as a result of the search of the residence, White said.
