Is it some sort of crime to live in Auburn, instead of Lewiston? Based on the coverage of just about everything from education to sports by the Sun Journal, it sure feels like it.

Take, for example, coverage of the state alpine ski meet results on Feb. 21. A glance at the front page with the title “Heating up the slopes” and a huge picture of a Mount Blue skier, and one would assume that, once again, Mount Blue had snagged the state title.

But wait. Turn to the sports section, where yet another picture of a Mount Blue skier appears, and read the fine print. The home team won after all. Edward Little! Shame.

If that were an isolated incident, I could swallow it. But the reporting bias has gone on for more years than I can remember. I ask the Sun Journal to please make an effort to be more fair in reporting.

People and events matter, on both sides of the river.
