JAY – A 15-year-old Jay High School student has been charged with felony terrorizing in connection with a bomb threat at the school on Feb. 12, police said.

The boy has also been suspended from school and is awaiting a meeting with the school board and administration, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

Police and firefighters responded to a report of bomb threat about a half-hour before school was dismissed for that day.

School administrators explained to responders that a student had turned on a school-owned calculator and observed on the screen “I have a bomb,” White said.

Students and staff were evacuated from the school to the adjacent middle school for a brief time while the building was checked for a bomb, then they returned to the high school.

Police Detective Drew Hufnagel conducted an investigation into the matter, White said.

After witness statements and evidence had been obtained and interviews conducted, the student was charged with terrorizing, White said.

“The police department and high school staff and administrators worked collaboratively in resolving this incident,” White said.

It was the second bomb threat in three weeks. A 17-year-old boy was charged with terrorizing after police say a bomb threat was found on calculators in a classroom on Jan. 25. The message that appeared on them was “bomb in the room,” White said then.
