WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) – The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife wants to hear from people who see dead bats or bats flying around during cold weather.

While some bats will fly on warm, late winter days, any bats flying when the weather is cold most likely suffer from what is being called white nose syndrome.

The disease has been discovered in locations where bats are hibernating in Vermont, New York and Massachusetts.

Biologists say flying bats have been reported in Arlington, Pownal and Brattleboro.

The reports can lead the biologists to the locations where sick the bats are hibernating.

Darling says white nose syndrome can kill 95 percent of the bats that contract it.
