AUBURN – The second of two people charged in connection with a Poland crash that killed six agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor.

Samantha Renee Montana, 20, of Lewiston was indicted last year by an Androscoggin County grand jury on a charge of permitting unlawful use, a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail.

A plea hearing in Androscoggin County Superior Court is scheduled for March 6.

The indictment charged Montana with allowing a car she co-owned to be driven on Route 122 in Poland by Michael Cournoyer, 20, of Auburn on the night of Dec. 23, 2006.

Cournoyer was leaving a party in Poland with three passengers. The car crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car, killing everyone in both cars. Cournoyer’s blood-alcohol level was .14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent. Police cited alcohol as a factor in the crash.

The passengers riding with Cournoyer were Jacob Roy, 20; Robert Bruce, 19; and Matthew Manley, 18. In the other car were driver Steven Walton, 27, and his fiancee, Laura Caron, 25.

Montana is expected to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge at the same time Ryan Brissette, 28, of Poland is expected to also plead guilty to allowing a minor to possess or consume liquor, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail.

An indictment charged him with allowing five men and five women – all underage drinkers – to drink alcohol at a place under his control earlier that night at a party in Poland. One of those underage drinkers was Cournoyer.
