EUGENE, Ore. – Mike Mathieu, 66, formerly of Sabattus and Merrimack, N.H., passed away suddenly on Monday, Feb. 4, at his residence in Eugene, Ore.
He was born the son of Lucienne (Thibodeau) and Floyd Mathieu in New York City on March 25, 1942. Aside from home schooling, he attended Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, N.H., where he met his life friends, David and Bard Dorsett.
He resided many years with his mother in Merrimack, before moving to Sabattus in 1974. He resided in Sabattus for more than 25 years with the love and support of his aunt, Alma Vachon, and his cousins.
In 2001, he adventurously moved to Eugene to live and work with Robin Irish, one of his “three kids.” There he worked for PFS Med as the UPS computer shipping manager.
He enjoyed communicating with friends via his CB radio under the handle “Charlie 1.” As CB technology advanced, he communicated with people as far away as Europe, combining his radio skills with his computer. The computer age opened up a whole new range of options and his vicarious travels around the world expanded.
He enjoyed all music, especially old-time country. He will be remembered for his independence, feisty attitude, intelligence, expressive eyebrows and wonderfully dry sense of humor.
Survivors include cousins in Maine, New Hampshire, and Michigan; their children and the Irish family of Maine, New Hampshire, and Oregon; and friends, old and new.
He was predeceased by his parents.
