Dear Sun Spots: Regarding Tuesday’s Sun Spots request for heavy wool for braiding rugs: There is a store in West Gardiner, Mandy’s Wool store, I believe, which is open by chance or appointment. There is also a mill ends store in Oxford or Otisfield. I’m sorry, I can’t seem to find the phone numbers, but you may be able to with your resources. Both sell wool by the yard or scraps.

Thanks for your very helpful column. – Bethel Shields.

Answer:
Sun Spots has learned that unfortunately, Mandy’s Wool Shed has been sold. The new store and owner is Gloria Ripley, Cellardweller, 2351 West River Road, Sidney, 547-4588. Please call to set up a time. Ripley sells all kinds of rug braiding and rug hooking supplies as well as her own line of crafted jewelry. She also takes crafts on consignment.

The Oxford Mill End Store is at 281 King St., Oxford, 539-4451. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Dear Sun Spots: I may be interested in building the church birdhouse if I had the pattern. I may be reached at P.O. Box 141, Leeds, ME 04263-0141. – Leo S. Richard, Leeds.

Dear Sun Spots: We have several varying designs of birdhouses that your reader might be interested in. We’ve got many units of tall condo, modern art, White House and white church. In addition, for those readers who’ve been seeking metal detectors in previous columns, we also carry those as well as underwater gold panning kits and more. We, Bernard Art Gallery, are open daily, generally from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are at 2784 Turner Road in Auburn, north of the Auburn Mall, 782-7739. – Don, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: Could you please find out where I can purchase a new Ashley airtight stove. I’ve had one I’ve used for 15 years but would like to purchase a new one. I’ve checked the Lewiston and Auburn areas but no luck. Thank you. – G.A.L., No Town.

Answer: Consider contacting Aubuchon Hardware, 691 Main St., Lewiston, 782-1794 which carries this brand. You’ll need to discuss your stove in more detail so they can ensure they carry the particular model you are seeking. They are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
