Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street.

The 12-inch Snoopy fabric squares will be collected and will be transformed into a baby quilt soon. A member is requesting 6-inch strips of pink fabric for a special quilt she plans to make. Canceled stamps, empty thread spools and washcloths are also requested.

Show and tell items are welcome, especially this year’s mystery quilts. This winter’s challenge is to complete one unfinished project. For more information, call 562-7050.

Seniors trips

DIXFIELD – Neighborly Senior Citizens met on Feb. 20 at the Dixfield Legion with 58 present. The meeting was opened by President Connie Tutlis, who gave several readings followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of “God Bless America.”

A report was given on trips as follows: March 17, St. Patrick at Indian Head; April 3, Lac Megantic for Le Cabana Sucre; June 3, Daniel O’Donnell at Cumberland County Civic Center; June 27, TRIAD picnic, Fryeburg Fairgrounds.

Also, July 18, Cabbage Island; Sept. 6, Down Home Maine Hootenanny, Jose Duddy, at Indian Head; Sept. 30, Fryeburg Fair; Dec. 8, Christmas at Indian Head.

Observing February birthdays were Blackie Parise, Hector Girardin, Phyllis Prue, Glen Tripp, Dexter Frost, Carol Gallant and Lee Spaulding; February anniversary, Callie and Isadore Brann, 52 years.

Drawing winners were Hector Girardin and Maxine Palmer. New members were Albert and Lorraine Barre, Laura Trenoweth, Coral and Ken Rafuse. Beano followed.

Quit smoking

RUMFORD – River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition is offering four one-hour sessions on ways to help men quit smoking.

Seek officers

RUMFORD – The Rumford Polar Bears Snowmobile Club is seeking nominees to run for the offices of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, trail master and safety officer.

Election of officers will take place at the annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Sam’s Restaurant.

4-H contest

PARIS – Four-H members in Oxford County are invited to participate in a photo and art contest sponsored by the Youth Development Program of Oxford County Extension.

Contestants will be divided into age groups, with the top three earning first, second and third places. Divisions are 5- to 7-year-olds; 8- to 10-year-olds; 11- to 13-year-olds; and 14 and up.

Members may enter any number of finished art works or photos, which should be ready for display. Each entry needs too show a different skill, medium or technique.
