FARMINGTON – Farmington’s annual town report made its debut Monday at a small reception to honor the person to whom the book is dedicated.

Acknowledged as a long-time community volunteer, the book was dedicated to Kevin Vining, president of the family-owned E.L. Vining and Son Inc.

Vining admitted to being “very surprised.” Thinking he was at the town office Monday to discuss business with Code Enforcement Officer Steve Kaiser, he didn’t “expect any of this,” he said.

Each year, a committee of six nominate people who have done a lot of volunteer work within the community, said Sabra Stirling from the code enforcement office.

Town Manager Richard Davis presented the first copy of the town report to Vining along with framed copies of his dedication page and the front page, a photo of the North Church on High Street. The church is undergoing an extensive renovation project.

The dedication cites Vining’s donation of equipment, labor and site work to various school and community projects.

He was named “Business Friend of Education” in 2007 by SAD 9 directors for continued support of the district.

The town reports will be available around town and online at www.farmington-maine.org, Stirling said. The town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 10.
