LEWISTON – More than 100 books are being made available to the community by the Franco-American Collection at USM/Lewiston-Auburn College.

The volumes are mostly about France, Rome and the Catholic religion – from popes and kings to the Louvre and the Sistine Chapel. Some are beautifully bound and illustrated. Many are in French and several date from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Visitors to the collection can choose from the selection starting on Wednesday, March 5. The books are being offered free, though donations would be appreciated especially for the higher-end editions.

“These have been gathered from a variety of sources over the last 35 years, since the original Franco-American Heritage Center was established. Our space is limited and we have to make room for recent donations which focus more specifically on the French in North America,” said Donat Boisvert, the collection coordinator.
