Auburn – Gilbert G. Berube, of Treemount Drive, Lewiston, died on Monday, March 3, at the age of 82.

He was born in Lewiston on March 2, 1926, the son of Eugenie and Thomas Berube. He received his education in Lewiston schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon and European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two bronze stars.

He married the former Collette Pelletier on Sept. 12, 1959, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church and prior to his retirement in 1986, was employed at Knapp Shoe Company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 106, Ligue du St. Nom de Jesus, Cadet de Ste. Marie, l’Union St. Jean Baptiste, Lewiston Senior Citizens, Holy Cross Senior Citizens, Horizon 55 and Covenant 50.

He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church and enjoyed life, laughter, pinochle, ice fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his loving wife, Collette, of 48 years of Lewiston; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Anita) Poliquin of Lewiston and Mrs. Normand (Monique) Rivard of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Raynald; and sisters, Pauline Rioux and Bernadette Gagne.
