Every goal for every professional team, for every professional athlete, along with winning a championship, is perfection. As we all know, the New England Patriots came so close to redefining perfection after going 16-0 in the regular season, and going 18-0, until losing to the New York Giants in the post season to give the Patriots a final record of 18-1.

Only one word can naturally describe the Patriots season: Incomplete. The Patriots were a 12 point favorite going into the Super Bowl. Whether or not the Patriots were overconfident in themselves, or the Patriots’ offensive line wasn’t putting in enough effort, or even the Giants were just that good, the Patriots could not hold on to be perfect as they lost 17-14. The Patriots could not repeat what the Dolphins did in 1972, but the Patriots did give America a reason to be excited about something in football since the Dolphins, or John Elway.

From destined to damned, the Patriots were the most exciting, and entertaining team in football history. The Patriots could not win the one that mattered most, as they went from immortal in one week to very mortal, the next. The Patriots may have been so confident in themselves, that they forgot that to be perfect, you must believe it. To believe it you must achieve it. To achieve it you must go all the way. It will be losing the Super Bowl that the Patriots will remember, not the triumphant effort. This Super Bowl upset is one of the greatest upsets in sport history.
