Lewiston – Rose Aimee Morency Metivier, 90, of 550 College St., formerly of 43 Coburn St., passed away on Monday, March 3, at her home.
She was born in Lewiston on April 26, 1917, to Archelas and Alvina Mercier Turgeon. After the death of her father when she was 4 years old, she was brought up by an aunt and uncle, Hilda and Jean Thomas Morency. She attended Lewiston High School and St. Joseph Academy in South Berwick and Acme Business College.
She married Robert (Bob) Metivier on Sept. 23, 1944, and he predeceased her on Sept. 16, 1996. She was employed for attorney Fernand Despins and later for the Maine State Employment Bureau as a claims interviewer, retiring after 25 years. She also worked as a polling clerk for 10 years in Ward 5 because she aspired to encourage people to vote, especially young people.
She was a member of the Maine State Employees Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Lewiston Senior Citizens, AARP, Covenant 50 and St. Peter and Paul’s Basilica.
She was an avid fan and listened to the Lewiston Maineiacs games. She enjoyed her new home at Montello Heights and the many old and new acquaintances who she was with in her new environment. Her family was the love of her life, and she especially enjoyed the time spent with her five great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Richard T. Metivier and his wife, Claire, of Lewiston; a grandson, Thomas Metivier and wife, Tiffany; and a granddaughter, Amy Landry and husband, Brian; great-grandsons, Derek, Jacob and Nathan Metivier; and great-granddaughters, Leah and Lauren Landry; and a sister, Irene Hindley of South Windsor, Conn.
