Lewiston – Simonne R. LaChapelle, 84, of Lewiston, formerly of Vivian Street, Auburn, went to be with the Angels, her parents, brothers and friends in heaven on Monday, March 3, at d’Youville Pavilion with her family by her side.
She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 10, 1923, the daughter of Arthur and Yolande Marquis Rousseau. She graduated from Edward Little High School with the class of 1943 and married Gerald LaChapelle on Jan. 15, 1944, at St. Louis Church in Auburn.
She worked in the local shoe industry for many years and later pursued a career in nursing, graduating from C.M.V.T.I. in Auburn as an LPN with the class of 1977. She then worked for Tri-County Services then at Bolster Heights Nursing Home. She finished her career as a health nutritionist with the University of Maine Extension program.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Gerald, of 64 years, of Lewiston; two sons, Ronald LaChapelle and his wife, Judith, of Auburn and Roger LaChapelle and his wife, Maureen, of Lewiston; a daughter, Patricia and her husband, Norman Gove, of Auburn; eight grandchildren, Timothy LaChapelle of Auburn, Jeffrey LaChapelle of Buckfield, Lisa Ouellette of Auburn, Jennifer Renna of Beverly, Mass., Katherine LaChapelle of Columbus, Ohio, Ryan Gove of Kansas City, Mo., Kevin Gove of Bowdoin and Andrea Gove of Auburn; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren, Mitchell LaChapelle of Auburn, Connor, McKenna LaChapelle of Buckfield, Haley, Jaden, Devin Ouellette of Auburn and Gavin Renna of Beverly, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. Sisters and brothers include Christine Poulin of Auburn, Collette Mahmod of Oxnard, Calif., Roland Rousseau of Las Vegas, Nev., Candice Williams of Lewiston and Yolande Caron of Lewiston.
She was predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Normand and Gerard Rousseau, both of California.
Her family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff at d’Youville Pavilion, 4-West, for their excellent care of Simonne.
