WASHINGTON (AP) – The Navy’s newest attack submarine, the USS New Hampshire, will be commissioned at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Oct. 18.

The Navy selected the shipyard to host the commissioning ceremony after several members of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation wrote to senior Naval officials last year.

The shipyard, in Kittery, has hosted several commissioning ceremonies, including the USS Portsmouth in 1983 and the USS Maine in 1995.
