Lisbon Town Council
Met: Tuesday
Sausage Kitchen
Issue: Maurice Bonneau’s Sausage Kitchen has been interested in relocating the business to a downtown location.
Scoop: Following an executive session to discuss the business proposal, councilors voted to sell the former post office building on Main Street in Lisbon Falls that houses the Teen Center to Bonneau for $85,000. Town Manager Steve Eldridge said the business, which was looking for a location with town sewer and water, will be a nice anchor on Main Street and a welcome addition to the downtown.
The Teen Center will be relocated to the MTM Community Center on School Street in Lisbon Falls.
Land for park
Issue: From time to time the town acquires property through the foreclosure process when taxes are not paid, and in most instances if it is not redeemed by the owner it is sold by public bid.
Scoop: It was voted to turn over 14 acres of tax-acquired wetland to Beaver Park since the parcel abuts the park. Because it is wetland, permitted uses for the property are limited.
Smoking on town property
Issue: Although there is a state law banning smoking in many public areas, the town had no formal policy on smoking.
Scoop: Following a recommendation presented by the Wellness Committee, it was voted to adopt a policy that smoking on town property will be restricted to designated areas only.
Sewer treatment upgrades
Scoop: Russell Associates Inc. was awarded a contract to replace sludge dewatering equipment at the sewer treatment plant on its bid of $9,430. Two other bids were received, one for $9,850 and the other for $5,835. The lowest bid was not accepted because no one from the firm visited the plant to see what was needed.
Admistrative assistant
Issue: The position of administrative assistant to the town manager is vacant due to the resignation of Cassie Lablond.
Scoop: Eldridge said 14 applications for the position have been received. That list has been narrowed to four finalists.
Budget workshop
Scoop: A budget workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the old recreation office as another meeting has already been scheduled in the town office meeting room.
