LEWISTON – Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert visited Hillview Resource Center on Feb, 5. His visit was the first of a 10-session parental involvement series offered to Hillview parents addressing the importance of children’s education and the parental role in it.

Gilbert’s parents immigrated to the United States and he was an English language learner like many of the residents. He shared advice on advocating for children’s education and learning with them.

The parental involvement series is made possible by community partners, including Bates College, the city of Lewiston, the school department and United Way of Androscoggin County, as well as the U.S. Department of Justice Weed and Seed Program through the Androscoggin County Safe Haven Project, fiscally managed by Volunteers of American Northern New England.
