LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, 254 Goddard Road, is participating in a statewide backyard composting bin and rain barrel water collection sale.

Those interested may visit the office or call Jane for more information or an order form at 753-9400, ext. 400. All orders must be received by Friday, April 11.

The backyard compost bin converts grass, leaves and table scraps into a supply of rich garden soil. The compost bin has an 80-gallon capacity and is assembled by snapping pieces together.

A beige and white kitchen scrap pail has a two-gallon capacity with a hinged lid and snap-on carrying handle. The wingdigger is a tool to turn compost periodically.

SkyJuice New England and the district have teamed up to offer 55-gallon rain barrels to help residents conserve water, save money and reduce stormwater run-off. A rain barrel collects water from the roof when it rains and stores it for watering house and outside plantings. Collected rain water contains more nutrients and less salts than tap water.

All proceeds from Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District sales underwrite costs for its programs.
