PHILLIPS – Irene L. Dodge, 88, of Pinkham Hill Rd., Phillips, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 8, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1920, in Mercer, a daughter of Stephen E. and Kate A. (Otis) Ladd. She received her education in Mercer schools. She married Merton Wing and later married Woodrow W. Dodge. He predeceased her in 1992.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed at Dimond Match, the Phillips Woolen Mill and she also sold Raleigh Products for many years. She was a cook at local restaurants and, for a number of years, she and her husband owned the Madrid Store.

She was a member of the Phillips United Methodist church and was past-president of the United Methodist Women’s Group. She also had been an active member of the Reeds Mills Church in Madrid and was a member of the Reeds Mills Ladies Circle. For over 60 years, she was a member of the Sandy River Grange, Pomona, State and National Granges and held many offices, repeatedly, over the years. She was a past-president of the Phillips Senior Citizens and was a trustee of the Shadagee Senior Citizens Apartment Buildings.

Irene enjoyed sewing, making quilts, knitting, crocheting, working on crafts and playing cards, particularly sixty-three. She was also a creative cook and was well-known for making pies. She read her Bibles faithfully and always enjoyed being in the company of her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Theodore “Ted” Wing and his wife, Margaret, of Middletown, Conn., and Daniel Wing and his wife, Mavis, of Farmington and St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Marie Rose Wing Bubier and her husband, Paul Bubier, of Phillips; a sister, Clarabelle E. Austin of Wildwood, Fla., nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Louise Ann Dodge; and siblings, Elmer G. Ladd, Frank E. Ladd, Walter O. Ladd, Edwin L. Ladd, Adeline A. Modig, Bertha B. Perkins, Lydia M. Drummond, Isabel E. Wing and Marion Whitney.
