FARMINGTON – Gladys Adelaide Lovell, 95, of Farmington, passed away March 10 at The Pierce House, surrounded by her five loving children. The daughter of Charles W. Buchanan and Einda M. Savage, she was born in New Sharon April 9, 1912, and attended schools there.

She married Edwin Lovell in 1930, moved to Starks and raised six children. Gladys worked as an LPN for 40 years in local nursing homes, including what is now known as Orchard Park, formerly known as Hale’s Nursing Home.

She enjoyed crafts, knitting, flowers and birds, the outdoors, and reading. She was a member of Amaranth #75, the Farmington Purity Court, Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Madison, and the Congregational Women’s Association in Madison.

She is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Fournier and her husband, Eugene, of Orrington; Betty Ellis and her husband, David, of Farmington; Leita Jackson and her husband, Howard, of New Vineyard; Nathalie Stoddard of East Wilton; a son Lloyd Lovell and his wife, Anita, of Wilton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Jean Buchanan of Farmington; and her brother Herbert Buchanan and his wife, Mary Ann, of New York.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin; her son, Edwin “Joe” Jr.; two granddaughters, Karen Guerin and Jean Hunter; a great-grandson, Zachary; three brothers, Donald, William, and Murdoch Buchanan; and two sisters, Helen York and Catherine Wardwell.
