RUMFORD – Dixfield photographer Christal Treadwell was awarded Best of Show (Photo of the Year) and Court of Honor for her fine art print titled “A Bridge to Work” at the Maine Professional Photographers Association Convention and Print Exhibition held in Freeport recently.

A gallery showing and art auction to benefit Treadwell’s Keeping the Arts Alive scholarship fund will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Island Indulgence/Hotel Harris, 24 Hartford St.

Treadwell’s “A Bridge to Work” also tied for highest print score and highest scoring case, with more than 180 prints and more than 85 cases entered in the MPAA competition. MPPA membership includes more than 100 Maine professional image makers. Prints are submitted for anonymous judging by a visiting panel comprised of professional photographers from different states who have achieved the master photographer’s designation.

Treadwell, who owns Studio 6 and Photography by Christal in Dixfield, has been an MPPA member since 2005 and has received numerous ribbons and awards of excellence. This is her second Best of Show win in three years. Other distinctions include the Kodak Gallery Excellence Award, 2006; Court of Honor, 2006; Judges Choice, 2006; Herff Jones Award, 2007; and Judges Choice, 2008.
