LISBON – Joseph “Raymond” A. Boulay, 80, of Lisbon died Monday, March 10, at his residence with his family by his side after a long illness.
He was born in Lewiston, July 13, 1927, the son of Amadee and Alice (Cote) Boulay and had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He had owned and operated Boulay’s Red & White Grocery Store. He then became employed as a welder for Bath Iron Works until his retirement in 1988.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran from May 30, 1945, till July 27, 1946, having served in World War II. He had earned the WWII Victory medal and the American Area medal.
He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church and the American Legion in Lisbon.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, the former Madeleine Toussaint, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1945, of Lisbon; one son, Marc Boulay and his wife, Becky, of Winthrop; two daughters, Doris Veilleux of Lewiston and Theresa Goulet and her husband, Marc, of Lewiston; one sister, Theresa Kellam of Oregon; seven grandchildren, Angela, Nichole and Katie Veilleux, Danielle and Krista Goulet and Randee and Ben Boulay; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Bouyea and Cohen Champagne.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Laurent and Rene Boulay; one sister, Rhea Fortin; a granddaughter, Sara Goulet; and also Eva Boulay who was his stepmother who raised Raymond since he was 3 years of age.
The family would like to thank the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and a special thank you to Dr. Gregory Bianconi for the care and support they have given to Raymond and his family.
