AUBURN – William L. Scott, 79, a resident of 66 Old Carriage Road, Auburn, died on Monday, March 10, after a short but vigilant battle with cancer.
He was born in Lewiston, on Nov. 2, 1928, the youngest son of John L. and Alice (Beaumont) Scott Sr. He grew up in Lewiston and was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. During high school and following graduation from college, he worked for Pineland Lumber in Lewiston, eventually becoming president and co-owner.
An avid Boston Red Sox, Celtics and New England Patriots fan, he also enjoyed travel and the occasional winter in Florida. During the summer, a favorite pastime was simply enjoying a light breeze at his brother’s cottage on Taylor Pond.
Survivors include his brother, the Rev. John L. Scott of Auburn and Davie, Fla.; his sister, Jean Holcombe and her husband, Jack, of Columbia, S.C.; three stepsons, Edward Fahey of Middletown, Conn., Walter Fahey of St. Petersburg, Fla., and James Fahey of Auburn; a niece; six nephews; and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Virginia G. Fahey of Lewiston.
