BYRON – Longevity took a back seat to municipal newcomers this week when town meeting voters filled two selectmen seats and the town clerk’s job.

In December, Steve Duguay, who has served the town as a selectman for the past 25 years, retired due to health reasons, according to Selectman Bruce Simmons.

The town report was dedicated to Duguay.

Another selectman, Steve Ladd, served seven years and called it quits. Additionally, Roseanna White Susbury, who has been the town clerk for the past 18 years, decided to let someone else do it.

“That’s 50 years of experience we’ve lost,” Simmons said Tuesday.

At Monday’s town meeting, voters elected Corey Freeman to a three-year term to replace Ladd, and Michael Gallant to serve the remaining year of Duguay’s term.

Freeman’s wife, Allison, was elected as town clerk.

Incumbent Tax Collector and Treasurer Melissa Plourde was re-elected to another one-year term.

In other town meeting business, voters OK’d a municipal budget of $120,000, up $6,000 to $7,000 over last year, Simmons said.

That doesn’t include Oxford County and SAD 43 assessments, which are done later in the year.

Voters also should expect a special town meeting within the next two months. Due to errors, Simmons said some articles were omitted. One included authorizing selectmen to enter into a second 10-year extension with Med-Care Ambulance Service.

“Having an ambulance available out here is quite important. That was definitely just an oversight,” Simmons said.
